Scrambled Egg vs. Sunny-side Up
McDo Paseo Center’s Health Safety Issues on Eggs
I love my breakfast dates with my husband. We always take off early from home and drive to the office for a nice and enjoyable meal together. Most of the time, we go to McDonald’s Paseo Center to spend our sweet mornings. We like the choices of meals from the fastfood and their store is near from where we work.
My hubby was craving today for some pancakes and so he ordered a Pancake with Sausage Meal. As for me, I ordered my recent favorite meal, Big Breakfast® (garlic fried rice + sausage + scrambled + coffee). Why “recent,” you asked? It was my second time to order this meal with my personal preferences. It started last Friday and I requested to serve my meal with a sunny-side up and one-half plain rice (McDo has this charity promotion for buying less rice for the same price. Genius and nice! *smiles*). I do not like scrambled eggs much and the nice lady crew and manager gave me two sunny-side ups. They told us that they use two eggs for the scrambled so it is fitting that they give me two sunnies, after the crew saw the puzzled and surprised look from my face. I thanked her dearly and enjoyed my breakfast with my dear hubby.
But today, we were not able to to get my meal so easily. The crew ushered us to wait in our seats and said that they will deliver my B-BR (that is how they call it, McDo lingo) soon. After a few minutes, the manager (or supervisor, I am not sure though), Ms. Llamoso, approached us.
(Manager): Ma’am, Sir, okay lang po ba na scrambled na lang po yung i-serve namin sa Big Breakfast? (Ma’am, Sir, is it okay for your Big Breakfast that we serve you scrambled egg?)
(Hubby & I): Bakit po? (Why?)
(Manager): For health safety po kasi. (For health safety.)
(Hubby & I): Health safety?
(Manager): Opo. (Yes.)
(Hubby & I): Ano pong health safety? (What do you mean for health safety?)
(Manager): Scrambled po kasi yung sa Big Breakfast. (Big Breakfast comes out with scrambled egg.)
(Me): Last Friday kasi, we ordered the same meal and sunny-side up din. They told us na puwede naman since two eggs din yung sa scrambled. Two eggs po, right? (Last Friday, we ordered the same meal with sunny-side up. They told us they can serve me two eggs since they use the same number of eggs for scrambled. Two eggs, right?)
(Manager): Opo, pero baka pinagbigyan lang po kayo nung nag-serve sa inyo dati. (Yes, but maybe they just gave you a favor last time.)
(Hubby): Anong oil yung gamit niyo for the scrambled and sunny? Magkaiba ba? (What oil do you use in cooking scramble and sunny? Different oils?)
(Manager): Pareho din po. (We use the same oils.)
(Hubby): Ano pong health safety? Dito lang ba yun sa branch niyo? (Then, what do you mean “for health safety?” Does that apply to your branch only?)
(Manager): Dito lang po sa amin. Franchised po kasi kami. Anyway po, pagbibigyan na lang po namin kayo ngayon. (Yes, at our branch only. This one is franchised. Anyway, we will just let you have the meal for today.)
Then she left.
We could have understood her reasons if there were cholesterol concerns (hubby pointed that out to me) or different methods of cooking or there were inventory control for cooked scrambled or cooked sunnies for the day. But all she said was “for health safety” and that they (the store) are franchised.

2 eggs = McDo B-BR Scrambled Egg
2 eggs = 1 Sunny-side Up + 1 Sunny side up
Based from the manager:
2 Sunny-side Ups cannot take the place of: McDo B-BR Scrambled Egg
(Why?)
Because:
Health Safety + Franchised

Pardon me, but I really do not get it. I love McDo stores but I hope this one branch manager/supervisor could have given us a clearer explanation.
I lost my appetite at that moment but, of course, I still ate my meal and we gave thanks to God for our wonderful breakfast.
Perhaps there was something my hubby and I did not understand from their store operations. We are currently trying to contact McDo’s customer service. In the meantime, if there is someone out there who can explain, kindly explain to us. We certainly welcome your views. Maybe there are cholesterol issues (which, I still do not understand since they are the same amount of eggs)? Inventory issues? We will keep you posted as soon as we get feedbacks from them.
Till next time! Let’s talk again.

Hello again!
I tried calling their customer service. The operator informed me that the representatives are usually available in branches/stores. She is not sure when or what time a customer representative will come in at their office and will be available for phone inquiries. She is very polite and apologetic but I told her that it is okay and I will try to call back again later.
Hubby saw their number from the website and we opted to call them instead of e-maling since there were no available e-mail addresses to contact them.
So for now, we have no more options on how to inquire from them. Maybe I will try ordering the same meal preference in other stores. Time to experiment! Wheeee!
